February 13, 2017- Guidecraft will introduce a new concept in block play, Block Science, at the American International Toy Fair in New York on February 18th-21st, 2017. Block Science is a pioneering extension of the unit blocks system of play, adding a rich layer of cognitive development goals, including an introduction to the laws of physics.
This year’s introduction to the brand new Block Science system includes 3 sizes of Block Science Foundation Sets, which when used with traditional unit blocks, provide a foundational layer of roadways and structures and a basis for future sets to come. The Foundation Sets are designed to exercise early engineering concepts, collaboration, and the study of matter, motion and mathematics. Plastic building and roadway clips stabilize builds, drawbridges and loops to enable taller, sturdier and movable tracks and builds. Simplified, wooden cars with rubber wheels easily glide across the rubberwood tracks and connect to each other with a small rope piece. The algebraic people who ride in the vehicles have symbols for additional mathematical and dramatic play activities.
Block Science Foundation Sets and Unit Blocks Sets, both sold by Guidecraft, are for children ages 3 and up. Foundation Sets are sold as 55, 92 and 155 piece sets with suggested retail prices from $100 and $350. Each set contains 5 activity cards to help teachers and parents maximize the educational experience of Block Science play; demonstrating specific builds, scientific and mathematical lessons as well as vocabulary. Unit Blocks Sets are sold as 28, 56, 84, 135 and 218 piece sets with suggested retail prices from $50 and $500. Additional vehicles and people can be purchased as well.
