Arklu Showcases First Doll in Space and 2016 Collection at New York Toy Fair

Arklu will be showcasing its new range of Lottie dolls and accessories at the New York Toy Fair, including the ‘Gold Collection’ line of STEM focused Lottie Dolls, featuring Stargazer Lottie; ‘First Doll in Space’ - alongside new additions for 2016 to the pro-girl doll range. (Schylling Booth #767)

The Special Edition ‘Gold Collection’ ‘Stargazer’ Lottie doll is a collaboration with the European Space Agency, and includes a telescope and tripod, as well as a set of special solar system collector card and a pull-out sheet featuring notable women in astronomy. Stargazer Lottie became the first doll in space recently, the STEM focused doll is currently on the International Space Station with British ESA Astronaut, Tim Peake and American NASA Astronaut Tim Kopra.

Stargazer Lottie visited the International Space Station along with British ESA astronaut Tim Peake and American Nasa Astronaut Tim Kopra on the 15th of December 2015, having travelled ahead on board Orbital ATK's “S.S. Deke Slayton II” Cygnus cargo spacecraft. In January 2016, Tim sent word from Lottie in space to his following, with a picture from the Cupola showing the Stargazer Lottie Doll, in the box gazing into outer-space.

6 year old Abigail (Victoria, B.C, Canada) is the star of a short video by female filmmaker Elena Rossini about the girl who has designed the first doll to go into space. Abigail’s idea for an astronomy themed doll to help other kids learn about space was the inspiration behind the Stargazer Lottie doll. During her time on board the ISS, Stargazer Lottie will fulfil her mission to get kids interested in space.

The Special Edition STEM ‘Gold Collection’ ‘Fossil Hunter’ Lottie doll is a collaboration with TrowelBlazers, an Anglo-American group of women archaeologists, palaeontologists and geologists. The ‘School Days’ Lottie doll is a collaboration with the US non-profit organisation, Girls Leadership Institute to inspire confidence in girls.

Arklu will be launching six new Lottie Dolls and six new accessories in 2016 as well as six new outfits for its range of boy dolls Finn. The will be launching their own doll house, carry case, stables and play mat later this summer. 2016 will see Arklu launch a series of Lottie chapter books, aimed at children age 5-8.

Lottie™ is an alternative ‘pro girl’ doll for children aged 3 - 8. The key point of difference from other fashion dolls is that Lottie’s body is ‘childlike’. Her dimensions (with the exception of her head) are based upon those devised by leading British scientific academics to reflect the average proportions on a nine-year-old girl. Lottie doesn’t wear makeup, high heels or jewellery, and she can stand on her own two feet….a life-skill that is important for girls both big and small. Lottie’s motto is ‘Be bold, be brave, be you’.

Lucie Follett, Creative Director, says “2015 was all about ramping up awareness; and what better way than Stargazer Lottie having travelled to the International Space Station. We have some new additions to the range including chapter books and a doll house, as well as exciting marketing and PR plans this year as well as new brand partnerships, in store activities, an extensive PR plan, new merchandising units and an innovative digital marketing plan all being rolled out in 2016.”

Since their launch in August 2012, Lottie dolls have received 29 international awards including 6 prestigious Oppenheim Portfolio Platinum Awards and have been the beneficiary of international press coverage.
