Silver Dolphin Books Launches New Series in the Smithsonian Line: Smithsonian First Discoveries

(December 2015) San Diego, CA– Silver Dolphin Books expands its line of interactive, educational titles with Smithsonian First Discoveries (March 2016; $16.95; 48 pages; Ages 1 and up), a new series of early learning boxed sets created in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution.

The first two titles in the series—Little Learner and Young Explorer—combine eye-catching illustrations and colorful photographs with simple labels to introduce young children to new concepts. Each set comes with four board books in a magnetic carrying case for learning on the go. Little Learner (ISBN: 978-1-62686-482-5) introduces babies to Colors; 1,2,3; ABC; and Animal Bodies. Young Explorer (ISBN: 978-1-62686-481-8) encourages toddlers to explore topics such as Around the World; Dinosaurs; Animals Around the World; and The Planets—asking them to pick their favorite dinosaur, learn the planets, and discover animals from distant lands.

Silver Dolphin also expands its Smithsonian Readers line with Smithsonian Readers: Read with Me! Pre-Level 1 (March 2016; $14.95; ISBN: 978-1-62686-571-6; Ages 4 and up; 200 pages). Read with Me! PreLevel 1, created in collaboration with child literacy expert Dr. Adria Klein, lays the groundwork for early reading comprehension with short, simple sentences and familiar vocabulary. Six 32-page topics cover Under the Sea; Planes, Trains, and Trucks; Adorable Baby Animals; Life on a Farm; What’s the Weather Outside?; and Bodies, and includes quizzes, lively photographs, and perforated fact cards to reinforce new skills. Smithsonian Readers: Levels 1-4 are also available for young readers at every level.

Finally, Smithsonian Magnetic Adventures: Sea Life (April 2016; $22.95; ISBN: 978-1-62686-304-0; Ages 5 and up; 64 pages) joins the Smithsonian Magnetic Adventures line. Sea Life comes packed in a tin carrying case that opens to reveal an underwater scene for young readers to create their own adventure with 30 foam magnets and a sheet of reusable clings. A 64-page ocean guidebook introduces future oceanographers to marine life large and small—from seahorses to blue whales. Magnetic Adventures: Jungle and Solar System are also available.
