TIA’s Annual Toy Safety Update to Take Place at Toy Fair
Speakers to include representatives of the CPSC and TIA, with more announcements shortly

January 21, 2016 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) will host its annual Toy Safety Update on the morning of Monday, February 15th at the 113th North American International Toy Fair. The free seminar will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 1E21 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. 

 

The annual Toy Safety Update at Toy Fair provides manufacturers, retailers, toy inventors, testing labs and others within the toy industry with news and developments related to toy safety laws and regulations in the U.S. and abroad.

Following an opening from Steve Pasierb, TIA president and CEO, the seminar will feature presenters from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), TIA, and others who will provide updates and cover emerging legislative and regulatory activities and trends, including:

  • Keynote Panel Discussion: CSPC Commission Report -- Agency Priorities for 2016
    Keynote addresses by  CPSC Commissioners Robert Adler and Ann Marie Buerkle (invited)
     
  • Introducing CPSC's "Regulatory Robot" Tool
    Designed to help companies identify important product safety requirements relevant to their products, a demonstration of the new Robot will be given by Neal Cohen, Small Business Ombudsman, CPSC (invited)

 

  • Revisions to ASTM F963 Toy Standard
    Anticipated changes, estimated timing and next steps for the toy standard – Alan P. Kaufman, SVP, Technical Affairs, TIA
     
  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
    An update on the status of the proposed revision to  the federal Toxic  Substances Control Act (TSCA), and what it may mean for the toy and children's products industries  – speaker TBD
     
  • Forecast 2016:
    • Emerging Issues – Toys and Other Consumer Products— speaker TBD
    • State Outlook – “What to Expect in States in 2016” – Jennifer Gibbons, senior director of state government affairs, TIA

The discussions   will focus on important developments regarding product safety, as well as legislative and regulatory news from the U.S. and around the world,” said Joan Lawrence, TIA senior vice president of standards and regulatory affairs. “The speakers this year will aid all attendees with compliance and help ensure the worldwide development and distribution of safe toys and games.”
